Battle of the Books Results 2024
BATTLE OF THE BOOKS 2024 RESULTS
Congratulations to the students that participated in the Battle of the Books 2024! The competition took place on February 1, 2024, and the scores were very impressive. It is awesome that these students took initiative and strengthened their teamwork skills, planning and time management skills, and of course, reading comprehension skills!
The student team that won was a eighth grade team called "Words of Wisdom," made up of Max D’Acquisto, Sebastian Gulinski, Henry Mermal, and Dylan Schmidt. "Words of Wisdom" attained a perfect score during our school competition. This very impressive team represented GMS at the state-wide competition in February and we will know soon how they performed.
We had another team that earned a perfect score! This eighth grade team was called "M.A.C.K. and Chez" and was made up of Cami Milow, Madelyn Moersfelder, Ariel Martinez, and Kylie Schmidt. Fun fact: for the first time in the GMS Battle of the Books history did two siblings battle against each other during a tie-breaker that was held to see which team would represent GMS at the state level.
The second place team, "The Secret Page," was from sixth grade and consisted of Raelyn Anderson, Ava Dinh, and Mariana Ecker. They only missed one question and will be a force to be reckoned with in next year's battle.
The third place team was made up of sixth graders and was called "The Fantasey Freeks" (purposely spelled wrong!). The members of this team were Adam Zodrow, Keegan Arterburn, Karina Goyette, and Hannah Volkening. Great job!
"Words of Wisdom" represented GMS at the state-wide competition in February and the top three teams received Amazon gift cards and trophies. Participating students attended a celebration that included snacks, the big reveal of the winners, and a raffle drawing.
Ms. Speare is proud of all of the participants for taking initiative and doing some extra reading this year. A special thank you goes out to the two teacher teams that participated this year. "Beauty and the Books," made up of Ms. Burish, Mrs. Fonte, Ms. Kovach, and Mrs. Patterson, and the "GMS Newbies," consisting of Ms. Saavedra, Ms. Siepler, Mrs. Sarosi, and Mrs. Ward. They truly went above and beyond to model reading for the students of GMS!
