Battle of the Books, Meeting #1 - in December, 2023

Use this form to sign up for Battle of the Books. Only one form per team is needed.
Use this spreadsheet to keep track of your team's reading. You will need to make a copy of it for your team.
1. Your team can consist of 2, 3, or 4 people. If you need a team, let Ms. Speare know and she will help you find one.
2. Teams can be made up of anyone at GMS. So you can mix up sixth, seventh and eighth graders on your team.
3. Your team will need to read all of the twenty books on the official Battle of the Book list. Decide now who will read which books and start right away. A great way to keep track is using Google Sheets! You will need to make a copy of it for your team.
4. Use Google docs to help you remember details and facts about the book.
5. You will have October, November, December, and January to prepare for the competition.
6. The competition will be held on February 1, 2024. All teams will compete together at 2:30 in the lunchroom.
7. The answer is the title of the book. Also study the authors because that counts for points. You only need to memorize the author's last name.
8. The highest score you can receive is 375 points. Here is the breakdown:
9. Trophies are awarded to the first, second and third place teams. These teams will also receive gift cards.
10. The first place team will compete in the state competition online.

- Correctly match the book title with the 25 clues-list provided = 250 points
- Correct identify the author of each book-must memorize = 125 points.
